The Distraction Team wanted to choose our favorite places to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our favorite thing to do in Uptown is go to a few places and have drinks and food. We like to be Nomads and try a few places and keep moving so we all satisfy our cravings. Uptown is the easiest restaurant bar hopping in Dallas. There are so many different styles of food and drinks the variety is endless. One thing that the restaurants in Uptown do have in common are amazing patios.

We love sitting back on a patio and watching people walk by. Depending where we are the show is always fun. One of our favorite places is Tex-Mex not only for the food but because most of the cocktails include tequila. Tequila is always a sure fire way to start a fun time. The nachos aren’t too bad either. Frankie’s sports bar is always having drink specials during games. Across from their is Del Friscos. You can’t go wrong at Happy Hour there. The food is always great along with the service, of course. They have a beautiful outdoor area as well to enjoy a beautiful Dallas day.

In between all of the eating and drinking we like to pop in the little shops and walk around. We love the Moscow Mule at Standard Pour. They are presented in copper mugs that are always as cold as the cocktail. Its the perfect, “attention to detail,” sort of thing Uptown Bars are noted for. We can always tell what bartender had a late evening the night before and if allowed buy them shots. Standard Pour serves food until 2:00 a.m. so its a great one stop shop late night to have a delicious fried chicken or pho.

We are also fans of Fsuzzi Uptown. We love making it our last stop and getting a late night pizza to go and a frozen vodka redbull while we wait.

There are so many different places in Uptown to eat and have fun. Our late lunch always turns into a late night and we are always ok with that. We have a routine.

The new year, 2013, has started with dramatic changes with the Dallas nightlife. Sadly, two of our favorite clubs have shut down. Cameo and Wish have been a Dallas staple for many years. It was always fun going to either place. We would wake up in the morning with blisters on our feet, bruises on our legs, and a slight headache. However, we always knew we had the best time the night before. The Distraction Dj’s always know what to play to make us dance the night away. We love watching the bartenders flip glasses and pour shots.

The Distraction Team always likes to go have a good time anywhere we are but we were bummed our favorite clubs were closed. We did enjoy our last evening at both of these places, as usual. So when we heard there were two new clubs on the Dallas scene we had to go check them out.

Saturday night we decided to get dressed up and go out on the town. We pulled up to Luxx around 11:30. Valet was located right next to the entrance so we didn’t have to walk far in the freezing weather. We walked in and were greeted by familiar faces. Luxx seemed like an intimate lounge which we liked. It was more laid back then a club. The DJ was on point. It was a mix of house, electronic, and hip hop. Luxx looked sexy with its black floor and black and white striped walls. Adjacent were mirrors which made the place look enormous. Their were hot GoGo dancers on each side of lounge. They were practically naked and believe it or not, we all enjoyed the show. Now we had good music and hot girls. Our next step was to get a cocktail. The bar was a lot more sophisticated then we would have thought. They had selected wines, craft beers, and high end alcohol. We were in heaven. The bartenders were super friendly and boy did they pour a great drink. After one or two cocktails we had to move on to our next new Dallas nightlife spot, LE VU.

As soon as we walked in we felt like we knew this place. Most of the Cameo staff were behind those velvet ropes. As soon as we walked in we all decided to go to V.I.P. and get a bottle of champagne. We knew the Distraction Team needed a home base considering we all wanted to explore the new spot. We immediately followed a host to our table. The host being an old friend of the team. This place was huge. There were tables all around the dance floor. In addition, they had a square bar which had writing in French on the bottom half of it. We liked the bar being square so you can get a drink around any side. You could also watch the bar staff throw shakers and make shots from any angle. It was very cosmopolitan chic.

The club lit up in shades of purple to neon blue. The clientele were about 21-45. The crowd was very sophisticated and trendy. Our cocktail server was flawless not only with our order but beautiful as well. She knew what we needed before we did. The DJ was on his game. One song was better than the next one. We danced the night away and socialized with friends we haven’t seen since Cameo closed.

All in all, we are sad that our two favorite clubs in Dallas had closed but were happy with new ultra chic ones.

Four ways to improve your video

Lighting is very important for any video. The tone of the video can go from day at the library; to an evening out at the club, with just a flick of light. Your body can quickly adapt to light variations at any time; however, your film camera can not. Shadows can make a person look fat or thin too even a building look massive or tiny. Fluorescent lights can cause a greenish/grey projection. Always use limited light source and use your cameras’ balance function. in addition you could just close all the windows and use your own overhead lighting to assure the exact way that want your video to be lighted.

Equally as important as light, is sound. They usually run hand in hand with each other. There is nothing worse than watching a video when mouths are moving and sound is not getting projected at the same time. It is like a bad foreign movie. You should always optimize your sound. Always limit your background sound. Use your camera microphone when possible; otherwise, wire the person who is speaking or singing for the clearest content.

Location! Location! Location! You have been hearing it for years and never put it together. Where you are is the most important part of anything you do so why would it be different with shooting your video. You want to pick the most beautiful location as possible. You want to amaze your video spectators and choose a location that they would want to go to keep your video interesting at all times. The better the location; the better the video. Choose a location that is the best variable for you and your viewer.

Who is going to be the main focal point of your video? You always want balance in any video. If you are the star, who is going to be in your background? The focus of your video needs to keep the attention of your viewer and your point of interest. Whether it is an instructional video or music video, the actor is one of the most important focuses of your video.

What kind of video are you looking to shoot? You want the music and sound to coincide with the acting and background. You want the best possible lighting, and most important, the best possible location. You do not want an amateur video camera or an nonprofessional cinematographer. You want the video to keep the attention of the audience and also make sense of what your point of the video is suppose to show. Once you decide all of these factors your video should be smooth sailing from there.

If you need your next professional video filmed whether it might be a music video or instructional. Go to Distractionent.com/films

So it is a beautiful Dallas day and you do not know where to eat lunch; Try the food trucks. At first it sounds like a pain in the butt, however, parking is easy and the trucks are gourmet. In addition, they all use fresh ingredients are for the most part, healthy! The trucks range from BBQ, Gourmet Deli, Asian, and the longest line always seems to be at the Slider Truck and Ice cream Sandwich Truck. The ice cream truck allows you, the consumer, to pick out a cookie and pick out an icecream and invent your own; personal, ice cream sandwich.

If you are limited in time and not sure what you are in the mood for, it is a perfect spot to go to lunch. Maybe you are in a group and everyone wants different items? Another excellent choice are the food trucks.

There is plenty of seating so you will not have to stand. Each truck takes about five minutes to produce your food piping hot. Its perfect if you like to eat slowly and are still hungry at the end of your meal. You do not have to ever be worried about being late after lunch or still being hungry and watching the time on clock drag by. Just walk back to the truck and in a moments time you can have a variety of food. You can experience three or four different trucks and have a buffet of different kinds of food from all over the world.

To find out where each of them are, you can go to distractionent.com. They are located conveniently all over Downtown Dallas.

The Distraction Team and I had brunch at Nick and Sam’s Grill. This was my first time at Nick and Sam’s and brunch is my favorite meal so I knew I would be very critical about the food and service. First off, I was impressed by the good looking crowd everywhere. There was a long wait so we just decided to eat at the bar. I ordered a mimosa and soon received a craft of mimosas. A huge smile arisen out of me and then I knew it was going to be an eventful afternoon. Everyone else ordered Nick and Sam’s special three dollar bloodymary’s that were equally as impressive.

Next I saw that Nick and Sam’s had the NFL ticket. I am a huge Miami Dolphin’s fan. I’m always skeptic about asking bartenders to change the game; however, the bartender was so gracious and assured me that was not a problem at all. The music was loud and more and more people were coming to the door. The mimosas were flowing and my game was on so I was a happy camper.

The real test would be my food. Every time I eat brunch I order pancakes. This can make or break my brunch. I immediately saw banana pancakes on the menu so I knew what I was getting right off the back. Everyone I was with ordered waffles, biscuits and gravy, and captain crunch french toast. I was extremely impressed by the timeliness and quality of the food. We modified a lot of our order and everything came out perfect. The bartenders were very efficient the whole dining experience. I was very excited when someone else asked to change the game and the bar team explained that I was already watching the game and when i left it would then be their turn to watch the next game. Being a bartender myself I allowed them to change the game so someone else could watch their game.

All and all, I was very impressed. I now believe that The Distraction Team will now have a Sunday Funday new brunch spot. Thanks Nick and Sam’s Grill for an amazing Sunday brunch.
